This review is from: Summer Infant SecureSleep Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
I'm almost eight months pregnant, and my husband and I bought this monitor about a month ago. We just recently moved to a bigger home, and one of the first things I wanted to do was make sure that we would get decent reception anywhere in the house with the parent monitor.

We bought this monitor after getting the Safety 1st Glow and Go monitor. I did not research that particular monitor at all before purchasing, but thought it would be a good buy. It said it was 900mHz and would get 400+ feet in range, and I liked that it also had a built in digital thermometer.. When we got it home and tried it out, though, we got it maybe 30-40 feet away, and it degraded into nothing but static and white noise on BOTH channels. Needless to say it was returned to the store the same day.

After some research, I decided to give this monitor a shot instead, even though I could not find any reviews online. The SecureSleep monitor gets great range! We can have it downstairs and... Read more

I think baby monitors are like tv antennae--one isn't going to work in every situation, it is very conditional. That said, this works great for us. I love the temp reading. There isn't much I can do right now in the summer but it helps me know that i need to dress the baby as lightly as I can. Our house gets very cold before the building heat comes on in the fall so I think it will be really helpful for that. We have a small apartment but it works in the apartment, down the hall, and in the stairwell. It is nice that it automatically finds an open channel so I don't have to deal with that. A great buy!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's great when not producing "static", April 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Summer Infant SecureSleep Baby Monitor (Baby Product)
I tried out two of these, one from amazon and one from the military exchange. The 1st one, from the exchange didn't work properly. The egg didn't light up the proper color, but I liked the idea of the temperature monitor so much that I returned that one and ordered a new one from amazon. The one from amazon worked like it was supposed to but after listening in on my 20 month old for 3 minutes horrible loud shrilling static would emit from the monitor for about 60 seconds or so. And it did this every 5 minutes! My husband and I would rush over from playing outside with our 5 year old to "TURN IT DOWN!". Needless to say, it was very loud and annoying and I wanted so bad to keep it but I cannot handle the frantic search for the volume every time I use it. It did this the next 3 days too, even when inside. Maybe it was just that particular one, I don't know but I didn't risk another one!

We just wanted a regular baby monitor...no frills. Just one that works with reliable batteries and clear sound. We like this monitor just fine. I agree with the other reviewers that it does have a fairly bright blue light when it is turned on. At first I thought this was going to bug us...but let's face it, with a three month old we are so exhausted it would take a lot more than a blue light to keep us up. It's slim and portable and provides a very nice nightlight on the base part in our baby's room. If you're not looking for a video monitor, this one does the job just fine.

Update....three months later.
Still love these monitors. As time went on, and we were getting more sleep at night, we did notice the brightness of the blue light. On the monitor we keep in our bedroom, I put a small piece of black duct tape over the part of the monitor that shines the brightest (down at the bottom and across the power button). It doesn't affect the function and diffuses... Read more

This review is from: Summer Infant Slim and Clear Digital Audio Monitor - Dual Receiver - 02480Z02950Z
We bought this monitor for our newborn son because it was digital and offered a long range- supposedly. At first, I mainly used it for daytime naps and because he is ready to go to bed before us at night. Now he has moved into his own room and we use it all night as well. The blue lights are horrible. The on/off button flashes every few seconds and is extremely bright. The lights to indicate noise (on the edges of units) are bright as well. We use a small fan (set on low) in our baby's room for white noise so these lights are ALWAYS on. Add the large flashing power button and you have a Daddy sleeping in another room and a Mommy sleeping with an eye pillow. (I can still see the blue lights from under the eye pillow and it s a Bucky). Last night we finally put the parent unit in a black sport sock and it did the trick- could hear it but the lights are nearly gone. Would have used black electrical tape but I don't want a gummy baby monitor in a couple of months. We have found... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Baby Monitor, April 26, 2011
This review is from: Summer Infant Slim and Clear Digital Audio Monitor - Dual Receiver - 02480Z02950Z
This monitor provides crystal clear reception. I can even hear when my son "sighs". We purchased this for our son who has special needs and is now 11. We need to be able to hear him if he has any breathing issues and this is by far the best monitor I've used.

The transmitter is plugged in, in his room.
The receiver can be plugged in OR runs on battery. If the transmitter in his room is turned off, OR if the power goes out, as long as there is a battery in the receiver, it will start beeping to let me know it is not receiving a signal.

I've read some reviews that say the blue light on the receiver is very bright. It is a bit bright, but I just don't put it on my night stand. Instead I simply place it on the floor and "point" the lights under the bed.

For any parents who may have a hard time hearing, the lights are a very clear signal that something is going on in the room with the transmitter.

A simple design, and it works... Read more
